Cher's latest legal effort was denied Friday in a Los Angeles court, when a judge ruled against her request that her son Elijah Blue Allman be placed in a temporary conservatorship.

The music icon had alleged in her petition filed this month that the drug dependency of her 49-year-old son, whose father is late musician Greg Allman, is "at its worst." The "If I Could Turn Back Time" singer had written that Allman "immediately" spends any money that he receives "almost exclusively" on "drugs, expensive hotels, and limousine transportation."

The judge argued that she didn't believe Allman would be able to access his money from her father's trust at the moment, *PEOPLE* reported, since he is both facing legal charges and is hospitalized.

Allman was arrested in February in Concord, N.H. He was charged with two counts of simple assault, criminal trespass, criminal threatening, and disorderly conduct.

In March, he was arrested again in the state's city of Windham, on charges of burglary, two counts of criminal mischief, and breach of bail.

He attended the Friday hearing via video call, because he is being held at a psychiatric hospital.

TMZ reported afterward that Allman's lawyer said in recent court doc that his client's departure from the facility on bail requires "acceptance into a residential treatment program for dual diagnosis, mental health, and substance use disorder."

Cher filed to place Allman under a conservatorship in 2023, too, claiming then that he was "substantially unable to manage his financial resources" due to "severe mental health and substance abuse issues." But the "Believe" singer dropped her petition the following year, after her son vowed to "change his lifestyle," she said in her latest filing.

The 2026 petition was denied without prejudice, though, so Cher would be allowed to file it again.

The *Mermaids* star is a mother of two, also including Chaz Bono, whose father is the late Sonny Bono.
