The DMV investigates hundreds of similar cases annually, but Brown still hopes to meet her lookalike in person

What began as a routine trip to renew her driver’s license quickly took an unexpected turn for Erika Brown.

The Anderson, Ind., resident was flagged for possible fraud. Soon after, a Fraud and Security Enforcement investigator reached out, asking her to come in for an interview and provide additional documentation to confirm her identity, Brown told FOX59News.

During that meeting, she was shown something she didn’t expect: a side-by-side comparison of her photo and another woman registered at a different Indiana address. The resemblance was striking, and they were the same age.

ā€œWhat are the odds that we look so similar, live in the same place, and have never crossed paths?ā€ Brown told the outlet.

ā€œI’m an only child, so no one really looks like me,ā€ she added. ā€œSeeing someone who looks so much like me was really strange and bizarre. No one had ever told me, ā€˜you look like so-and-so.’ ā€

Hoping to find answers, Brown later turned to TikTok, where she shared her story in a post that quickly gained attention.

"HELP ME FIND MY DOPPELGƄNGER !!!" she captioned her post on TikTok. "sorry for posting your picture girl, but your picture is also my picturešŸ˜…."

She has since continued posting updates, with viewers closely following along — and weighing in.

"So what happens if you can’t find this person? This is crazy good luck šŸ¤žšŸ½šŸ¤žšŸ½," one user wrote.

"Girl I’m in Fort Wayne but I can’t stop thinking about this. Hope you find her!"

"I’m reposting in Indy! I saw your post yesterday, and WOW! I’m so bought in! Hope you find her! šŸ’™šŸ’™šŸ’™"

While the situation was eventually resolved, with Brown receiving her license about three months later, the mystery remains.

According to the outlet, the DMV’s Fraud and Security Enforcement Division handles more than 500 such cases each year out of roughly 1.6 million ID credential transactions processed annually.

Still, Brown says she hasn’t heard from the woman.

ā€œI want to meet her, be in the same room, and know who she is,ā€ Brown said. ā€œDoes she have a family? What do her parents look like? How does something like this even happen genetically?ā€
